The Oxygen Man" Deepak Vishwakarma Honoured for Driving Eco-Conscious Change

In a momentous recognition of his unwavering dedication to environmental conservation, Deepak Vishwakarma, Founder and President of
Making The Difference – NGO, has been conferred with the Times Now Amazing Indians Award 2025 in the prestigious category of Environment & Sustainability. The accolade reaffirms his inspiring role in India’s green movement and highlights the power of community-led action in addressing climate and ecological challenges.

The award ceremony, held in New Delhi on August 11, was organized by Times Network and presented by Adani. It celebrated 13 remarkable individuals across various fields who have shown exceptional commitment to nation-building and community service. The event was graced by the presence of Shri Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports. A distinguished panel of jurors, including renowned figures such as Neerja Birla, Padmaja Ruparel, Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Prasoon Joshi, and Ashishkumar Chauhan, selected the winners after rigorous evaluation.

Among the distinguished changemakers, Deepak Vishwakarma stood out for his groundbreaking contributions to environmental restoration. Popularly known as “The Oxygen Man”, Deepak has spearheaded initiatives that have brought tangible ecological transformation to several regions in India. Under his leadership, Making The Difference – NGO has successfully planted over 65,000 saplings across the states of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The organization has also created dense urban forests using the Miyawaki technique, converting barren and unused lands into thriving ecosystems that support biodiversity and improve air quality.

But Vishwakarma’s environmental work goes far beyond tree plantation. His NGO has been instrumental in launching comprehensive waste management systems, conducting beach clean-up drives, and organizing awareness campaigns that have reached schools, colleges, residential communities, and corporate institutions. These campaigns emphasize sustainable living, reduction in single-use plastics, and the importance of individual responsibility in environmental preservation.

In collaboration with numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Deepak and his team have also enabled companies to integrate sustainability into their operational models. By connecting businesses with ground-level green projects, he has helped bridge the gap between corporate intent and environmental impact.

Upon receiving the award, Deepak Vishwakarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude and emphasized the collective nature of his achievements. In his acceptance speech, he said:

“This award belongs to every volunteer, partner, and community member who joined hands to make our planet greener. Being called the Oxygen Man is an honour, but the real victory will be when every citizen takes up the responsibility to protect our environment.”

Deepak’s journey is one of transformation – both personal and societal. What began as a mission to green his local surroundings has grown into a national movement for environmental accountability. Making The Difference – NGO has become a beacon of hope, mobilizing thousands of volunteers across states and encouraging policy-makers, corporates, and citizens alike to take proactive steps towards sustainability.

His approach is notably inclusive. From students to senior citizens, from slum dwellers to CEOs, Vishwakarma believes that everyone has a role to play. His campaigns are designed to empower individuals with the tools, knowledge, and motivation to make lasting changes in their immediate environment.

What truly sets Deepak apart is his ability to combine grassroots activism with strategic impact. By working with urban planners, environmental experts, and municipal bodies, he ensures that his projects are not only community-driven but also scientifically sound and scalable.

The Times Now Amazing Indians Award is one of the country’s most respected recognitions of social impact, and Deepak’s selection in the Environment & Sustainability category sends a powerful message: that environmental restoration is not the work of a few, but a shared responsibility that can shape the future of the nation.

As India grapples with increasing environmental degradation, urban pollution, and the effects of climate change, leaders like Deepak Vishwakarma offer a roadmap for hope and resilience. His work proves that with vision, dedication, and collaborative spirit, a healthier and more sustainable future is within reach.

With this award, Deepak joins an elite group of changemakers who exemplify the spirit of service and innovation. More importantly, he continues to inspire millions to care for the planet — not just through words, but through relentless, on-the-ground action.
